L'église de Broere a été construite au 13ème siècle en tant qu'église monastique des Frères Mineurs. Après la révolte des icônes, l'église est tombée entre les mains réformées en 1578, puis les bâtiments du monastère abandonné ont été démolis. En tant qu'église réformée, elle a servi jusqu'en 1970. L'église à trois nefs sans clocher est une ruine en raison d'un incendie survenu le 8 mai 1980. En 1986, l'église a été ouverte au public. Le plus ancien bâtiment de Bolsward a reçu en 2006 un revêtement en verre, conçu par l'architecte Jelle de Jong. Le bâtiment est un monument national.
