The Broerekerk was built in the 13th century as the monastery church of the Minorites. After the iconoclasm, the church came into Reformed hands in 1578, after which the abandoned monastery buildings were demolished. As a Reformed church, it served until 1970. The three-aisled church without a tower is a ruin as a result of a fire on May 8, 1980. In 1986, the church was opened to the public. The oldest building in Bolsward received a glass roof in 2006, designed by architect Jelle de Jong. The structure is a national monument.
