Le Château Groot Poelgeest a probablement été construit vers 1250. Il appartient à la famille Van Poelgeest depuis des siècles et a été détruit et reconstruit plusieurs fois. En 1717, il était certainement laissé à l'abandon et a lentement été détruit pour réutilisation et par les intempéries. Seules l'une des tours d'entrée et l'île restent comme preuve du château.
