Nulle part le passé des villes hanséatiques n'est aussi palpable qu'à Elburg. Cela a tout à voir avec la proximité du petit port où de nombreux navires accostaient autrefois. Jusqu'en 1932, c'était un port important sur la Zuiderzee, mais il a disparu à cause de l'assèchement. Aujourd'hui, le port d'Elburg est une attraction touristique. On y voit des bateaux en bois naviguant avec des touristes à leur bord.
