Une longue histoire de longs ponts
À cet endroit, un pont existe depuis des siècles, mais il a déjà été détruit deux fois en temps de guerre pour repousser l'ennemi.
Le premier pont (en bois) a été construit en 1572. Un petit trois-quarts de siècle plus tard, le pont en bois a été reconstruit. Pendant la période sans pont, l'aubergiste de la Maison de Justice servait également de batelier.
Le prochain pont en bois n'a été en place que quarante ans, car il a été démoli en 1672 sur ordre de Guillaume III pour arrêter les Français.
Le pont suivant a été gravement endommagé par un incendie de ville en 1781. Deux autres ponts ont ensuite suivi.
Le pont en pierre actuel, le pont Princesse Irené, date de 1939.
