Cette route asphaltée à travers la forêt est la Défenseweg. La route a été construite en mars 1940 sous l'ordre du Commandant en Chef des Forces Terrestres et Navales. Le matériel militaire pouvait ainsi être déplacé en dehors du champ de tir des troupes allemandes en direction de la Grebbeberg. Après la guerre, la Défenseweg a été pendant de nombreuses années un endroit populaire pour les joies de la neige, sur une luge derrière la voiture. Aujourd'hui, la route attire les cyclistes qui recherchent les côtes de la crête.
