Deze geasfalteerde weg dwars door het bos is de Defensieweg. De weg is in maart 1940 op last van de Opperbevelhebber van Land- en Zeemacht aangelegd. Militair materieel kon zo buiten het schootsveld van de Duitse troepen in de richting van de Grebbeberg worden verplaatst. Na de oorlog was de Defensieweg vele jaren een populaire plek voor sneeuwpret, op een sleetje achter de auto. Tegenwoordig oefent de weg aantrekkingskracht uit op wielrenners die de klimmetjes van de heuvelrug opzoeken.
