L'origine de la paroisse d'Echt remonte à la période de 400 à 700, mais le plus ancien document écrit mentionnant une église date de 928. À ce moment-là, le droit de patronage et le droit de dîme de la paroisse furent donnés au chapitre de Saint-Servais à Maastricht. Cette église était dédiée à Sainte-Anne et peut-être aussi à Saint-Rémy. Plus tard, Saint-Landricus devint le deuxième saint patron et, après 1722, le seul. L'église était romane et construite en pierre de marne. En 1477, l'église romane fut remplacée par un bâtiment gothique tardif, tandis que le chœur fut construit en 1400.
