Le canal Amsterdam-Rijn est le canal entre Amsterdam et Tiel (de l'IJ à la Waal). Il relie le port d'Amsterdam à la région de la Ruhr (Allemagne) et est le canal le plus fréquenté du monde. Le canal mesure 72 kilomètres de long, 100 à 120 mètres de large et 6 mètres de profondeur.
En 1931, il a été établi par la loi que le canal devait être construit. Cependant, la crise et la Seconde Guerre mondiale ont retardé sa construction. Ce n'est que le 21 mai 1952 que le canal a été inauguré, par la reine Juliana, sur toute la longueur de 72 kilomètres.
