En 1915, la Coopérative Laitière Sint Barbara est fondée à Eckelrade. Les agriculteurs de la région peuvent y apporter leur lait, afin qu'il soit transformé en divers produits laitiers. En 1951, la laiterie d'Eckelrade fusionne avec la laiterie de Reijmerstok, Limburgia. Ensemble, elles poursuivent leur activité sous le nom de Sint Barbara. Deux ans plus tard, en 1953, la laiterie d'Eckelrade ferme ses portes et la production se concentre uniquement à Reijmerstok. Entre-temps, un B&B s'est installé dans le bâtiment emblématique d'Eckelrade.
