Cette mare appartenait autrefois aux Diaconesses de Tilburg, des sœurs qui étaient également actives en tant que religieuses. Elles utilisaient la mare pour se baigner, une activité que la population d'Oisterwijk a ensuite adoptée. En 1913, c'était la première mare que Natuurmonumenten achetait dans le Brabant.
