Dit ven was vroeger in bezit van de Tilburgse Diaconessen, nonnen die ook actief waren als zuster. Ze gebruikten het ven om lekker in te zwemmen, iets wat de Oisterwijkse bevolking later overnam. In 1913 was dit het eerste ven dat Natuurmonumenten in Brabant kocht.
