La Ruine de Strijen est le seul vestige du Château de Strijen, qui date de 1288. Le château était entouré de douves et comptait trois étages, sa tour associée en avait même six. Un autre nom pour le château est la Tour de Slotbosse, dû à la forêt de chênes qui se trouvait autrefois autour du château.
Le château a été détruit au XVIe siècle pendant la Guerre de Quatre-Vingts Ans et n'a jamais été restauré depuis. Aujourd'hui, vous ne pouvez encore voir qu'un coin de la tour haute de 25 mètres. Le reste du château a été démoli au XVIIIe siècle et a été utilisé par les Oosterhouters comme carrière. Pourtant, l'impressionnante ruine vaut le détour, que ce soit ou non en combinaison avec une agréable promenade dans les environs.
