Tromsø est une ville du Nord de la Norvège. Située dans le comté de Troms, au nord du cercle polaire arctique, elle a une superficie de 2 558 km2 et comptait 76 734 habitants au 1er janvier 2019, ce qui en fait la huitième ville du pays. Elle est surnommée « le Paris du Nord » et est la ville de plus de 50 000 habitants la plus septentrionale du monde.
Porte d'entrée du Svalbard, c'est le point de départ des expéditions polaires. Fondée officiellement en 1794, la ville serait bien plus ancienne avec des restes d'églises en bois debout remontant aux années 1250.
