Le chroniqueur de la reine Christina, Priorato, rapporte qu'elle a passé une nuit dans le château royal de Jönköping lors de son voyage vers le sud après son abdication en 1654. Le château a brûlé en 1737. Il n'a jamais été reconstruit. Les ruines ont été dégagées au XIXème siècle. L'histoire de la fortification et du château est présentée au musée Jönköping Läns situé à proximité, sur Slottsgatan. (Gravure du XVIIe siècle par Erik Dahlberg.)
