Nazarje est une commune située dans la région historique de la Basse-Styrie au centre de la Slovénie. L'économie de la région fut orientée dans l'industrie du bois jusqu'à la Première Guerre mondiale. La commune abrite le château Vrbovec dont la première mention remonte à 1248.
La commune est localisée à proximité des Alpes kamniques. Elle se situe à l'ouest de la ville de Velenje le long de la rivière Savinja, un affluent de la Save.
