L'edificio della stazione fu costruito nel 1884 e messo in servizio in occasione dell'inaugurazione della linea ferroviaria all'inizio del 1885. Fin dall'inizio, era la stazione più importante della zona grazie all'alto numero di viaggiatori e alle diverse cave di pietra e sfruttamenti forestali nei dintorni. Oltre ai 2 binari principali, c'erano altri cinque binari laterali in uso per la stazione merci. Due di questi binari erano dotati di una pesa.
