Il Kemmelberg, con i suoi 156 metri, è il punto più alto della provincia delle Fiandre Occidentali.
Profondamente sotto il Kemmelberg, subito dopo la Seconda Guerra Mondiale, è stata scavata in massima segretezza la cosiddetta bunker di comando di Kemmel.
Il Kemmelberg, proprio come la maggior parte delle colline circostanti (Rodeberg, Zwarteberg, Scherpenberg, Katsberg, Kasselberg, Wouwenberg, Kluisberg, Watenberg, ...), è nato da una formazione di dune quando il Mare del Nord si estendeva fino a terra. Nella sabbia delle dune c'era molto ferro. Questo, attraverso l'ossidazione con la sabbia, ha formato arenaria. Così queste colline hanno resistito alla prova del tempo.
