Il dominio provinciale De Palingbeek si trova sulla linea di spartiacque tra l'IJzer e la Leie, è grande 200 ettari e consiste in tre grandi parti: il Molenbos, il fossato lungo 3 km del canale Ieper-Komen e la tenuta De Vierlingen. Ora è un'area tranquilla per passeggiate. Il modesto crinale di spartiacque di 40 a 60 m di altezza forma una curva attorno a Ieper (Wijtschate-Hollebeke-Zillebeke-Passendale) e durante la Prima Guerra Mondiale ha ricevuto il nome di ‘The Salient of Ypres’, l'arco di Ieper.
