Il 9 giugno 1953, la chiesa è andata distrutta a causa di un corto circuito. La chiesa è stata ricostruita nel 1956 e consacrata il 20 giugno 1959. La chiesa è un'opera moderna e non possiede colonne. La via crucis è un'opera di Marcel Notebaert (1924-1986), un famoso pittore e vincitore di diversi premi nazionali e internazionali. Inizialmente, c'era abbastanza critica da parte della popolazione riguardo allo stile moderno di questa via crucis.
