Am 9. Juni 1953 brannte die Kirche aufgrund eines Kurzschlusses nieder. Die Kirche wurde 1956 wieder aufgebaut und am 20. Juni 1959 eingeweiht. Die Kirche ist ein modernes Bauwerk und besitzt keine Säulen. Der Kreuzweg ist ein Werk von Marcel Notebaert (1924-1986), einem berühmten Maler und Preisträger verschiedener nationaler und internationaler Auszeichnungen. Es gab aufgrund der Bevölkerung zunächst erhebliche Kritik an dem modernen Stil dieses Kreuzwegs.
