La Baia di Heist è un'area naturale situata nel comune belga di Knokke-Heist, nella località di Heist. L'area di 50 ha è di proprietà del governo fiammingo ed è gestita dall'Agenzia per la Natura e i Boschi. A causa dell'espansione del porto di Zeebrugge, le maree in questo punto della spiaggia di Heist erano state disturbate. C'era addirittura un luogo in cui non c'era più corrente. Un pericoloso effetto collaterale di ciò era la formazione di sabbie mobili che rendevano la zona estremamente pericolosa.
