L'Abbazia di Dendermonde è dedicata ai santi Pietro e Paolo. È un'abbazia benedettina, situata nel centro di Dendermonde. La comunità oggi è composta da otto monaci. È l'unica abbazia nella diocesi di Gand. L'abbazia deve la sua origine al Dendermondese Dom Veremundus D'Haens, uno degli ultimi monaci sopravvissuti dell'abbazia di Affligem in Brabante, che fu abolita durante la Rivoluzione francese nel 1796. Acquistò il vecchio monastero dei Cappuccini a Dendermonde nel 1837 dall'amministrazione degli aiuti e si stabilì lì con il suo primo novizio.
