Fino all'inizio del XX secolo, Liedekerke era un comune agricolo con piccole aziende agricole principalmente orientate all'autosufficienza. Le principali coltivazioni erano segale, masteluin, grano, patate e luppolo.
A causa della forte crescita della popolazione nella seconda metà del XIX secolo, le piccole aziende agricole furono sempre più frazionate, così che intorno al cambio secolo la maggior parte delle famiglie furono costrette a guadagnare qualcosa in più: le donne come ricamatrici a domicilio o come lavoratrici in un laboratorio tessile, gli uomini come fornaciai in una delle fornaci della valle del Dender. Nel 1896, 701 donne erano attive come ricamatrici.
