Il Comune di Veurne ha giocato un ruolo importante all'inizio della Prima Guerra Mondiale. Il Re Alberto I vi aveva il suo gabinetto di lavoro nella sala superiore. Qui sono stati discussi i piani per l'inondazione della Piana di Ijzer con Karel Cogge. Anche il Quartier Generale dell'esercito belga ha avuto qui il suo quartier generale per alcuni mesi. Nella Sala Albert del Comune potrai assistere, in occasione del centenario della Grande Guerra, a un docudramma che racconta la storia della Grande Guerra a Veurne.
