La strada ha ricevuto questo nome al momento della costruzione e dell'erezione della fabbrica Lens-Diamond-industries. L'arrivo di quella fabbrica ha segnato la fine dell'epoca dei tagliatori di diamanti indipendenti. Molti esperti artigiani dei diamanti sono andati a lavorare come dipendenti nella fabbrica LDI, parte di De Beers, il più grande attore nel mondo del diamante.
Nella fabbrica lavoravano all'epoca circa 300 persone, a febbraio 2002 è stata annunciata la chiusura. 255 dipendenti hanno perso il lavoro, la lavorazione dei diamanti come professione è stata quindi esportata verso paesi a basso salario.
Sul sito dove sorgeva l'ex fabbrica ci sono ora alcune piccole attività all'ingrosso.
