La stazione si trova nella piazza omonima Piazza Lussemburgo nel quartiere Leopoldo. Il nome deriverebbe dalla Grande Compagnie du Luxembourg. Questa azienda era responsabile della costruzione della linea ferroviaria tra Bruxelles e Lussemburgo nel XIX secolo (wikipedia, n.d.).
È una delle stazioni più grandi di Bruxelles. Da qui si ha una buona connessione IC con alcune città vallone come Namur o Liegi. Inoltre, la stazione fa parte della Grande ExpressNet. Questo garantisce una buona connessione con, tra l'altro, Mechelen, Leuven e Ottignies.
