Questa piazza è stata dedicata al fondatore della città, San Remacle.
La piazza è stata dichiarata patrimonio culturale storico. Le strade sono pavimentate con un pavé liscio proveniente dall'Amel. La maggior parte delle case risale al XVIII e XIX secolo. Al centro della piazza si trova “la fontaine du perron” del 1769.
Questa ex piazza del mercato misura 45 per 80 metri o 3300 metri quadrati.
Nel 1689 ci fu un grave incendio e le truppe di Luigi XIV distrussero la maggior parte delle case.
La piazza è il punto di arrivo per "Laetare di Stavelot", il carnevale della città. Il Lætare è una festa tradizionale che si svolge durante la festa di Laetare, la quarta domenica di Quaresima. Questo festival, uno dei più popolari in Vallonia, è anche noto per i suoi protagonisti: i Blancs Moussis.
San Remacle nacque attorno al 600 e morì intorno al 669 ed era un santo cattolico e ortodosso, fondatore dell'abbazia di Stavelot nel 651 e primo abate dell'abbazia di Solignac.
