Domenica 23 agosto 1914 i tedeschi compirono i più terribili atti di violenza contro la popolazione civile e la maggior parte degli edifici di Dinant furono distrutti. Un totale di 674 abitanti, comprese donne, anziani e bambini, furono uccisi dai tedeschi.
In questo sito, intitolato al proprietario Mur Tschoffen, 116 civili furono uccisi dai granatieri dell'Unità 100 della Guardia Sassone.
