Il visconte abitava in questa casa di campagna del Brugse Vrije.
Il Brugse Vrije era il più grande visconte della contea delle Fiandre. Comprendeva la regione intorno a Bruges, delimitata dal Mare del Nord , dalla Schelda occidentale e dall'Yser , e fu fondata nel X secolo.
L'edificio si compone di 2 parti : a destra l' antico catasto civile del XVI secolo riccamente decorato e a sinistra il settecentesco vecchio tribunale classicista. Nella sala degli assessori si trova il monumentale camino Keizer-Karel del XVI secolo, in quercia, marmo e alabastro, disegnato da Lanceloot Blondeel. Insieme ai dipinti, ai rivestimenti murali e al soffitto, fungeva da simbolo del potere della dinastia degli Asburgo.
