È stato restaurato nel 1992 su iniziativa dei vicini.
San Rocco di Montpellier si recò a Roma il prima possibile. Accanto , curava i malati, preferibilmente appestati , e ben presto si fece un nome guarendone alcuni con il segno della croce . Al suo ritorno, prese lui stesso la peste .
Nell'iconografia è quindi spesso rappresentato con la gamba aperta . Si ritirò in una foresta e lì fu guarito da un angelo.
