Nel Medioevo, Dinant era una città ricca e potente che costruì molto presto un'immensa cinta muraria che richiese la costruzione di numerose torri e porte . La cinta muraria è già menzionata nel 1239 g .
Il sito fortificato di Dry-les-Wennes fu costruito nel XIII secolo .
A nord della città, sul sito di Dry-les-Wennes, le mura si estendono lungo la rue Saint-Pierre all'altezza dell'Athénée Royal e terminano in cima alla valle della rue Saint-Jacques. Si estendono da nord a sud al centro del versante destro della valle, seguendo il rilievo della roccia. I resti sono costituiti da un muro di cinta continuo, lungo 450 m e segnalato ad intervalli regolari; una grande torre ettagonale (Torre Taravisée) e quattro torri molto ben conservate.
