Il Plein ha un passato militare. A metà del XVII secolo fu costruita qui una cittadella con caserme. Nel mezzo degli edifici militari si trovava un campo di addestramento, l'attuale Plein. Gli edifici militari furono demoliti, furono piantati alberi e nel 1879 il Plein divenne un parco pubblico. Nel 2002 il parco è stato ristrutturato secondo un progetto dell'ufficio Wirtz. Gli alberi ad alto fusto sono stati rimossi e hanno fatto spazio a viali alberati con sentieri in dolomite. Le fontane danno al parco una nota di freschezza. Al centro si trova, tra le tribune, un palco. Caratteristico del parco sono i platani monumentali, i tigli e le castagne selvatiche.
Un tesoro nascosto nel cuore della città. Un parco dove è un piacere trascorrere le giornate di primavera e estate. Anche il locale omonimo nell'edificio expo 58 è un consiglio da seguire.
