Il albero della libertà a Haasdonk fu piantato come albero di tiglio nel 1830 e ricorda alla popolazione locale la Rivoluzione Belga e la separazione dal Regno dei Paesi Bassi. Nello stesso luogo, di fronte al municipio, era stato precedentemente piantato anche un albero della libertà francese. Questo albero della libertà o palo simboleggiava la libertà e la democrazia del popolo, un segno di una società rinnovata e moderna formata dalle idee della rivoluzione francese. Nel 1969, l'albero della libertà belga fu nuovamente sostituito dall'esemplare attuale.
