El árbol de la libertad en Haasdonk fue plantado como tilo en 1830 y recuerda a la población local la Revolución Belga y la separación del Reino de los Países Bajos. En el mismo lugar, frente al ayuntamiento, anteriormente también se había plantado un árbol de la libertad francés. Este árbol de la libertad o palo simbolizaba la libertad y la democracia del pueblo, un signo de una sociedad renovada y más moderna formada por las ideas de la revolución francesa. En 1969, el árbol de la libertad belga fue reemplazado nuevamente por el ejemplar actual.
