Breendonklaan rimanda al Forte di Breendonk: originariamente il forte era durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale il quartier generale dell'esercito belga, ma ben presto venne utilizzato dalla Gestapo tedesca come campo di transito per i resistenti e gli ebrei.
La Fritz Vinckelaan (e sua moglie) Seraphine Zoetestraat, Louis Vander Schaeghestraat, Henri Vanblaerestraat, Maurice Lagravièrestraat e Frans Provoostplein (vedi foto) sono stati nominati in onore dei resistenti che morirono durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale nei campi di concentramento.
