La cosiddetta zuppa di latte Kappel è al centro di un evento importante nella storia della Svizzera. Alla fine di giugno del 1529, le truppe zurighesi marciarono contro i cantoni della Svizzera centrale. In questa prima guerra di Kappel, una guerra fratricida tra i confederati poteva essere evitata grazie alla mediazione delle città neutrali.
Secondo i rapporti, la fanteria comune dei due eserciti ha usato il tempo mentre i leader stavano negoziando per fraternizzare e mettere una grande pentola sul fuoco vicino a Kappel am Albis, esattamente al confine tra i due cantoni. Si dice che gli zughesi abbiano contribuito con il latte e gli zurighesi il pane per una zuppa di latte, che è stata poi mangiata insieme da entrambi gli eserciti.
