Schotten è una cittadina e una località termale situata nel distretto di Vogelsberg, in Assia centrale. Le città più grandi vicine sono Alsfeld a nord, Fulda a est, Bad Nauheim a sud-ovest e Gießen a ovest.
La località termale riconosciuta dallo stato si trova a un'altitudine tra 168 e 773 metri sul versante ovest del Vogelsberg. Il territorio comunale include Hoherodskopf e Taufstein, le due vette più alte del parco naturale della regione vulcanica Vogelsberg. Schotten è una meta turistica, rinomata per la sua sicurezza della neve in inverno e per le possibilità di escursioni in estate in ampie foreste. È possibile anche praticare sport acquatici nel vicino lago di Niddastausee.
