Brakel è una città nel distretto di Höxter, nella parte orientale della Renania Settentrionale-Vestfalia. Si estende su una superficie di circa 174 km² e conta circa 15.000 abitanti. Per il nome attuale del paese ci sono le designazioni storiche Brakele, Bracle e Brabecke.
Brakel si trova nel centro del distretto di Höxter tra le montagne di Egge e il fiume Weser, a 30 km a est di Paderborn e a 15 km a sud-ovest di Höxter. La città si trova nel parco naturale della Foresta Teutoburgica / Eggegebirge.
