Il meteorit Neuschwanstein ha raggiunto la Terra il 6 aprile 2002 alle 22:20:18 CEST vicino a Füssen in Baviera, vicino al castello di Neuschwanstein, nella zona di confine tra Germania e Austria.
Il meteoroide originale si è frantumato a un'altitudine di circa 22 chilometri sopra il suolo in diversi frammenti, che sono caduti su un'area di diversi chilometri quadrati. Finora sono stati recuperati tre di questi frammenti con una massa totale di circa sei chilogrammi. Neuschwanstein è stato classificato come enstatite condrite, un gruppo estremamente raro all'interno dei meteoriti rocciosi. È considerato il primo meteorite in Germania che è stato rinvenuto grazie a registrazioni fotografiche simultanee.
