Il Centro Storico della città di Remscheid, organizzato in connessione con il Museo degli Strumenti Tedesco, è una casa locale della storia. Svolge i compiti del precedente archivio comunale e del precedente museo della patria.
La parte più antica del Centro Storico è la casa degli acquirenti di strumenti Cleff. Il suggestivo design esterno dell'edificio rappresentativo costruito nel 1778 unisce caratteristiche stilistiche del rococò borghese con le forme e la palette di colori bianco-nero-verde dell'architettura bergisch.
