Il Westenhellweg è una parte della strada principale dello shopping nel centro di Dortmund. Si trova di fronte alla Kampstraße, che attualmente è in fase di trasformazione in un viale pedonale.
Il Westenhellweg segue la storica via commerciale e militare Hellweg, già utilizzata da Carlo Magno. Insieme all'Ostenhellweg, forma il percorso dell'antica strada all'interno delle mura storiche del medioevale Dortmund. Situato nel cuore del centro città, il Westenhellweg è, secondo uno studio di Jones Lang LaSalle del 2018, uno delle 10 vie commerciali più visitate in Germania, con 10.180 visitatori all'ora nei momenti di punta. I prezzi di affitto elevati e l'occupazione totale degli spazi commerciali senza locali sfitti evidenziano l'importanza del Westenhellweg come strada commerciale di rilevanza regionale.
