Il Duomo di Halle è il più antico edificio ecclesiastico ancora esistente nel centro storico di Halle. Qui risiedevano per lungo tempo gli arcivescovi di Magdeburgo come signori della città. La chiesa del cardinale Alberto di Brandeburgo doveva, insieme alla Nuova Residenza costruita accanto, diventare parte del capitolo più influente, potente e rappresentativo a nord delle Alpi. Il duomo è di proprietà della Fondazione culturale della Sassonia-Anhalt.
La chiesa era originariamente un monastero fondato nel 1271 dall'ordine mendicante dei Domenicani e completato intorno al 1330 con il patrocinio di San Paolo della Santa Croce. Secondo le loro regole, i monaci rinunciarono al campanile e al transetto nella loro semplice chiesa a tre navate.
