Il lago si trova in una zona ricreativa ed è utilizzato per la vela, il surf, le immersioni, il kayak e come lago balneabile. Presso il lago si trova la piscina all'aperto Klein Wangerooge. La qualità delle acque balneabili è monitorata dal 1991, di solito senza contestazioni. Tuttavia, nel 2003 e nel 2005 la piscina è stata chiusa per almeno 14 giorni durante la stagione balneare.
