La cameo S.p.A. è la divisione italiana della società per azioni tedesca Gruppo Dr. Oetker, fondata nel 1891 dal farmacista tedesco August Oetker, l'inventore del lievito in bustina, specializzata nella produzione di budini e surgelati.
Nel 1933 viene costruita una filiale del gruppo a Milano, che s'occupava di produrre alimentari a marchio Oetker, e in seguito viene trasferita a Desenzano del Garda . Nel 1953 il nome italiano della società viene mutato in 'cammeo e nel 1985, per velocizzarne ulteriormente la pronuncia, in cameo.
