Il castello di Wilhelmsthal è un complesso di castello e giardini nel quartiere di Eckardtshausen del comune di Gerstungen, nel distretto di Wartburg in Turingia. Il castello estivo e di caccia si trova a circa sette chilometri a sud di Eisenach, nella valle dell'Elte. Il complesso edilizio è stato costruito in numerosi lotti dal 1709 al 1913. Il castello di Wilhelmsthal è considerato l'ultimo luogo secolare di prima assoluta del compositore Georg Philipp Telemann.
Il luogo originale è stato menzionato per la prima volta nel 1349 come "Wintershusen". Le foreste e i prati ricchi di selvaggina lungo l'Elte erano una popolare area di caccia per l'alta nobiltà. A partire dai castelli di Eisenach e dal castello di caccia Marksuhl, sono state costruite sistemazioni e stalle per la caccia confortevoli. Queste sono sorte lungo il Rennsteig e presso il Glöckner di Ruhla. Nella valle dell'Elte è sorto il capanno di caccia Prunftau, dove il duca Giovanni Giorgio I morì il 19 settembre 1686 durante la stagione di caccia.
