Le cappuccine sorsero a Napoli per volontà della nobildonna catalana Maria Longo : rimasta vedova, si recò in pellegrinaggio a Loreto dove decise di entrare nel Terz'ordine di San Francesco, assumendo il nome religioso di Lorenza.
