Il parco naturale Dümmer si trova nei distretti di Osnabrück, Diepholz, Vechta in Bassa Sassonia e nel distretto di Minden-Lübbecke nella Renania Settentrionale-Vestfalia. In media, a 34 km a nord-est di Osnabrück, si trova tra Drentwede e Bohmte, oltre che tra Bersenbrück e Rahden.

Il parco naturale, che si estende su una superficie di 1123 km² e attraverso il quale scorre il bacino idrografico Weser-Ems da nord a sud, include nel suo territorio protetto, tra l'altro, le colline Dammer, il Dümmer, il monte Stemweder, numerose zone paludose e le aree protette "Dümmer" e "Piana occidentale di Dümmer".
È gestito dall'associazione "Naturpark Dümmer e. V." con sede a Diepholz. Quattro distretti e 16 comuni sono membri di questa associazione. Gli scopi dell'associazione riguardano principalmente la promozione del turismo e la conservazione del paesaggio.
