Il Giardino Botanico di Bielefeld si trova sul versante sud del Kahlenberg, che appartiene alla Foresta di Teutoburgo, nel sud-ovest della città di Bielefeld, nella Westfalia orientale.
Il parco è aperto tutto l'anno, l'ingresso è gratuito.
Fu fondato nel 1912 come estensione per il cimitero di Giovanni, fino a quando non si scoprì la straordinaria varietà di piante presenti nel terreno. Negli anni successivi furono seminate le prime nuove piante, così che nel 1915 il giardino conteneva già 500 specie diverse.
