La corte del Museo di Bad Oeynhausen è stata inaugurata nel 1969 come museo della Heimat della città termale dell'ostwestfälische. I modelli per il museo erano il museo all'aperto di Bad Zwischenahn, il museo della fattoria di Bielefeld e la corte del museo di Rahden, che stava allora appena nascendo. Inizialmente si pensava solo a un edificio singolo, la casa principale che venne trasferita lì a partire dal 1965. L'espansione in un complesso agricolo fu avviata nel 1974 grazie alla donazione di una casa di contadino. Fino al 1993 sono stati costruiti cinque edifici su un terreno di 2.800 m². A ciò si aggiunse una mulino ad acqua con due laghetti vicino al Osterbach nella valle di Siekertal.
